May 15 — Signing Anniversary of Collective Security Treaty
May 15 marks the anniversary of the signing of the Collective Security Treaty (CST). On this significant day in 1992, a solid foundation was laid for the modern security system in the Eurasian region, which became the basis for the creation of the Collective Security Treaty Organization.
Signing of the Treaty in Tashkent was a timely and strategically sound response to the global challenges and threats of that time. The document demonstrated the Member States' firm resolve to join forces to ensure peace, stability, sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Over the past decades, the CSTO has become a reliable guarantor of its members' security and built a powerful capacity for countering international terrorism, extremism, illicit drug trafficking and other transnational threats.
“The decision made in Tashkent more than 30 years ago proved to be a turning point for the Eurasian region. The foundation laid at that time has allowed us to build an effective collective security system. The Organization is constantly improving, adapting its mechanisms to new realities, but our commitment to the spirit of the 1992 Treaty and the principles of equality remains the unwavering guarantee of our peaceful future,” said CSTO Secretary General Talaatbek Masadykov.
For the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly, this day holds special significance. The parliamentary dimension of the Organization plays a key role in strengthening allied relations.
Today, amid a rapidly changing international landscape, the principles of equality, allied solidarity and mutual support, enshrined in the CST more than 30 years ago, remain an unshakable guiding principle for all Member States of the Organization.
