Yerlan Koshanov: We Stand for Strengthening Interparliamentary Cooperation for the Benefit of Our Peoples
Yerlan Koshanov, Chairman of the Mazhilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan, spoke at a meeting of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly in Moscow.
The Kazakh speaker stressed that one of the priority goals of the CSTO PA is to strengthen interparliamentary cooperation for the benefit of the peoples of the CSTO countries.
"At the suggestion of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, we're actively working towards giving the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly independent legal status. The corresponding agreement is currently in development. We hope to sign it next year, in time for celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Assembly," Yerlan Koshanov said.
He pointed out that the international forum "Great Heritage – Common Future" on the protection of historical memory, held in Volgograd in April, has become the highlight of the celebration year for the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War.
"We had a wonderful opportunity to pay tribute to all the heroes of the Battle of Stalingrad, including many Kazakhstanis," Yerlan Koshanov emphasized.
The speaker added that Kazakhstan actively participated in the development of the new Model Legislation Program of the CSTO PAand is ready to cooperate on its implementation.
