Gennady Lepeshko: Our Task Is to Give the Military Reliable Legal Support
During the final stage of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly's observation of the Nerushimoye bratstvo-2026 command-and-staff exercise with the CSTO Peacekeeping Forces, the parliamentarians' focus naturally shifted from evaluating the field training to strategic integration and harmonization of the legislation of the Organization's Member States.
Summing up the results of the exercise at the Losvido training ground, Gennady Lepeshko, Chairman of the Coordination Meeting of Chairpersons of Committees on Defence and Security of the Parliaments of the CSTO Member States, Chairman of the Standing Commission on National Security of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, praised the exceptional coordination level of the allied forces.
"Nerushimoye bratstvo-2026 fully lives up to its name. What we have seen is not merely a coalition, but a unified allied force. Now our common strategic goal is to enshrine this practical success in law across all Member States of the Organization, giving the military reliable legal support," Lepeshko said.
According to the parliamentarians, the successful coordination of military units in practice must be followed by a single, seamless legal framework. The specialized committees and commissions of CSTO Member States' parliaments now face a big lawmaking challenge: incorporating the experience gained at the training ground into national laws to close any legal gaps in collective defence and peacekeeper status.
