CSTO Secretary General discusses Armenia’s upcoming CSTO chairmanship with the Security Council Chief of Staff and acting Armenian Foreign Minister
As part of his working visit to the Republic of Armenia, Stanislav Zas, Secretary General of the Collective Security Treaty Organization, has held a meeting with Hayk Petrosyan, Armenian Security Council Chief of Staff, according to the press service of the Security Council of the Republic of Armenia. During the meeting the participants discussed the situation on the Armenian–Azerbaijani border, as well as possible use of existing CSTO mechanisms during the peaceful resolution of the situation. The parties also touched upon drafting documents to be presented at the upcoming meeting of the CSTO secretaries of security councils in Tajikistan in September and setting the priorities of Armenia’s upcoming CSTO chairmanship.
The Foreign Ministry’s press service reports that during the meeting with Armen Grigoryan, acting Armenian Foreign Minister, the parties discussed the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh situation, with both parties stressing the need for a comprehensive and lasting settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group.
Furthermore, both sides stressed the need to de-escalate the border situation.
Armen Grigoryan and Stanislav Zas also touched upon the chairmanship of the Republic of Armenia in the Collective Security Treaty Organization.
Armen Grigoryan presented the conceptual framework of Armenia’s chairmanship in the Organization and stressed that one of the priorities will be the enhancement of the Organization’s efficiency and strengthening of mechanisms for timely response to the needs of the Organization’s Member States.
Stanislav Zas, Secretary General of the Collective Security Treaty Organization, arrived in the Republic of Armenia on Monday August 9 with a working visit.
According to the CSTO website, the CSTO Secretary General is set to meet with Nikol Pashinyan, Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia; Armen Grigoryan, acting Foreign Minister; and Arshak Karapetyan, Defence Minister, on August 9–10.
