A session of the Collective Security Council (CSC) of the Collective Security Treaty Organization was held in Bishkek on November 28, 2019 under the chairmanship of Sooronbay JEENBEKOV, President of the Kyrgyz Republic.
A restricted number of CSC members discussed various matters, in particular, issues of international and regional security and the situation in the CSTO zone of responsibility.
A plenary session of the CSC was held with the participation of foreign ministers, defence ministers and secretaries of security councils of CSTO Member States.
The President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sooronbay JEENBEKOV, who presided over the SCS session, reported on what had been done in the Organization during the Kyrgyz Republic’s presidency: legal formalization of the CSTO Crisis Response Centre was completed, “a number of major exercises were conducted, in particular, the first special Echelon exercise in Russia, exercises Unbreakable Brotherhood in Tajikistan and Interaction in Russia. We have achieved coherence of the armed forces of the CSTO states and increased their combat readiness,” Sooronbay JEENBEKOV said.
“Overall, we can state that Kyrgyzstan’s plans for its CSTO presidency have been successfully realized,” he said.
The CSTO CSC has approved a List of Additional Measures Aimed at Reducing Tension in the Tajik-Afghan Border and adopted a Collective Action Plan of CSTO Member States to Implement the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy for 2019–2021.
The CSC adopted an Action Plan to Celebrate the 75th Anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War and approved the participation of servicemen from the CSTO Member States in the Moscow Parade on May 9.
Given that the Russian Federation took over the CSTO chairmanship in 2019–2020, Russian President Vladimir PUTIN presented at the CSC meeting Russia’s priorities during its chairmanship of the Organization.
A total of 17 documents were signed during the session. It was decided to hold the regular session of the CSC in Moscow in the second half of 2020.
