Russian and Kyrgyz foreign ministers discussed strengthening allied relations
During the meeting, Sergei Lavrov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, emphasized the friendly and trustful nature of Russian-Kyrgyz relations.
Ruslan Kazakbaev, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic, came to the Russian Federation with an official visit on the eve of an important date.
Sergei Lavrov said, “In two weeks we will celebrate the thirtieth anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. We appreciate their fraternal and friendly nature that allows us in the most difficult times to solve any issues as comrades, based on mutual assistance and support. We welcome the progressive development of our cooperation.”
The parties discussed “the situation in Central Asia, Afghanistan and cooperation in international organizations: the United Nations and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe,” Sergei Lavrov noted. He also said that the parties signed an Inter-Ministry Cooperation Programme. “It will provide us with clear guidelines for the future,” stressed Sergei Lavrov.
Ruslan Kazakbaev, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic, visited Moscow in February 2021. The parties also met last year “on the margins” of the CIS Council of Foreign Ministers meetings in Moscow on April 1 and the CSTO Council of Foreign Ministers meeting in Dushanbe on May 19.
Maria Zakharova, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman, said at an earlier briefing that the ministers planned to discuss topical issues of bilateral cooperation in political, trade and economic, cultural, humanitarian and other spheres. “They are also expected to exchange views on Eurasian integration and global and regional security issues, including in connection with the events in Ukraine,” Maria Zakharova said.
TASS reports that the meeting of the foreign ministers of the two states opens a series of events scheduled for 2022 to mark the 30th anniversary of the establishment of Russian-Kyrgyz diplomatic relations. Moscow and Bishkek form a strategic partnership and alliance. “They are multifaceted and have a similar approach to international and regional affairs and a focus on the development of Eurasian integration processes,” the Russian Foreign Ministry noted on the eve of the meeting.
