Kazakhstan and Russia Praise the High Level of Partnership Within the CSTO
On April 30, Sergei Lavrov, Russian Foreign Minister and Chairman of the CSTO Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs, arrived in the Republic of Kazakhstan on an official visit.
During his visit, the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry is holding a series of bilateral meetings with the Republic’s leadership. The main goal is to coordinate positions on key aspects of the strategic partnership and alliance between Moscow and Astana.
In Astana, Sergei Lavrov has met with Yermek Kosherbayev, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Russian Foreign Minister will also be received by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
The focus of the talks was on regional security issues in Central Asia and the coordination of joint actions on the international stage, including the joint fight against new forms of Nazism.
As Sergei Lavrov pointed out, one of the key elements of Russian-Kazakh relations is their shared memory of the Great Patriotic War. According to him, the two countries traditionally celebrate Victory Day together and hold special commemorative events.
Most importantly, Sergei Lavrov emphasized, "relations between Moscow and Astana contribute to maintaining stability across the common Eurasian space." The Russian Foreign Minister stated that there is no area in Russian-Kazakh relations that is not covered in the bilateral dialogue.
Apart from collective security issues, the agenda for the two-day visit includes discussions on trade and economic cooperation, cultural and humanitarian ties and the development of integration processes in the Eurasian space, including those within the framework of the EAEU and the SCO.
