On December 28, Senate of the Parliament of Kazakhstan approved the ratification of the fourth protocol to amend the Charter of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO).
The protocol was signed on August 26, 2022 and deals with the interaction of the CSTO Member States in the field of biological security.
“Amendments are made to Article 8 of the Charter, allowing to expand interaction between the Member States of the Collective Security Treaty Organization in the sphere of biological security,” reads the conclusion of the Senate Committee on International Relations, Defence and Security.
It is also proposed that Article 17 of the Charter would regulate the procedure of early dismissal of the CSTO Secretary General from office by decision of the Collective Security Council of the Organization based on a submission of the Council of Foreign Ministers.
After ratification by Parliament, the document will go to the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan for signature.
As you may recall, earlier amendments to the CSTO Charter were ratified by the Republic of Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, the Russian Federation and Tajikistan.
