Kovitidi: Rehabilitation of Nazism and Distortion of Historical Truth Is a Threat to the Security of All CSTO Countries
Speaking at an extraordinary joint meeting of the CSTO PA Standing Commissions, Senator Olga Kovitidi noted the importance of working on the Parliamentary Assembly Recommendations on Liability for Acts Related to the Rehabilitation of Nazism and Distortion of Historical Truth.
“Drafting of the Recommendations is timely because aggressive information policy of a number of states and organizations under their control, including international ones, on falsification of the history of the Second World War and glorification of Nazi Germany accomplices, which is manifested in the form of specific socially dangerous deeds aimed at rehabilitation of Nazism and distortion of historical truth, forms a wide range of security threats to all CSTO Member States,” Ms Kovitidi said.
In her opinion, delivering on such threats can result in the loss (discrediting) of key spiritual and moral values and disrupt the stability of the social and political order in the CSTO Member States.
“In the current circumstances there is an urgent need to improve the laws of the CSTO Member States providing for the liability for committing acts related to attempts to rehabilitate Nazism, distort the historical truth, humiliate the honour and dignity of veterans of the Great Patriotic War, equating the role of the USSR to that of Germany in the Second World War, downplaying the humanitarian mission of the USSR in the liberation of Europe,” the senator said.
Consultations on specific wording are ongoing, and the draft recommendations are being finalized and will be submitted for consideration at the next meeting of the CSTO PA Standing Committee on Socioeconomic and Legal Affairs this autumn.
