Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan Sign a Historic Agreement
On March 31, a trilateral meeting and summit of the heads of Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan is taking place in Khujand.
At the meeting, the heads of the three states signed an agreement on the junction point of the republics' borders. The signing ceremony was a solemn, cordial occasion.
Sadyr Japarov, Emomali Rahmon and Shavkat Mirziyoyev will also open a Friendship Center on the countries' border, which was jointly built in the neutral zone of Sughd, Batken and Fergana regions.
A bilateral meeting of Emomali Rahmon, President of Tajikistan, and Sadyr Japarov, President of Kyrgyzstan, took place in the morning. At the meeting, the leaders of the two countries signed the Protocol on Exchanging Instruments of Ratification of the State Border Agreement between Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan.
The presidents agreed that signing the Protocol, as well as launching the 500 kV power transmission line "Datka-Khujand" within the framework of the CASA-1000 project, are both historical events.
In the course of negotiations, the leaders of Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan underlined the importance of jointly taking measures to develop the border infrastructure, including transportation hubs, and opening new checkpoints on the border. The matters of removing the existing barriers and facilitating the border crossing procedures were referred to as topical.
In addition, the parties exchanged ideas on further coordinating their positions within the framework of international and regional organizations.
The signing of the Agreement on the State Border Junction Point has already been called a historic event, as this example of good-neighborly relations testifies to the firm determination to make the state borders a zone of peace, stability and mutual development, which will contribute to the security and prosperity of the entire region.
