Avesta.tj news agency reports that today at the first meeting of the session of the Assembly of Representatives of the Supreme Assembly of the Republic of Tajikistan of the 6th convocation, Mahmadtoir Zokirzoda was elected its Chairman.
Mr Zokirzoda was born on July 24, 1956 in Rasht district of the Tajik SSR.
After finishing school, he entered Tselinograd Agrarian Institute, majoring in geodetic engineering.
After the graduation he worked as a geodetic engineer at Giprozem design institute. Then Mr Zokirzoda worked for the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Tajikistan, and until January 26, 2008, he was acting Chairman of the Committee for Emergency Situations and Civil Defence under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan. Since January 26, 2008, he has been Director of the Land Management, Geodesy and Cartography Agency of the Republic of Tajikistan; and since March 2010, he chaired the State Committee for Land Management and Geodesy.
In 2015–2016 he was Minister of Agriculture, from late 2016 to January 2020 he served as Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Tajikistan.
Mahmadtoir Zokirzoda is married with two children.
