On March 27, draft Recommendations on Harmonization of National Legislation of the CSTO Member States in the Field of Combating Illegal Migration were presented at the meeting of the CSTO PA Permanent Commission on Socio-Economic and Legal Affairs at the CSTO PA headquarters in St. Petersburg.
The Explanatory Note to the document states that these Recommendations were developed on the suggestion of the Standing Commission on National Security of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, in accordance with the implementation of item 22 of Section I of the 2021–2025 CSTO PA Action Plan on Approximation and Harmonization of National Legislation of the CSTO Member States.
"In the modern economic and social context, migration is objectively the key element ensuring the effective functioning of both global and national economic mechanisms. In the modern world, one of the unfavorable trends in the development of the population migration phenomenon is the increasing scale of its illegal forms," said Aleksei Bashan, First Deputy Head of the Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Belarus.
The developers of the Recommendations emphasized that the document is designed to ensure the possibility of criminal prosecution of both the persons violating the established order of migration and the organizers of these acts.
