International observers of the CSTO PA laid flowers at the Monument to Blockade Survivors in Bishkek’s Victory Park.
During the years of the Blockade, from August 1941 and until 1943, over 16,000 people, including 4,000 children, were evacuated to the Kyrgyz SSR. Many of them survived thanks to the selflessness and assistance of ordinary Kyrgyz people; many remained in the Republic after the war. The Kyrgyz Republic instituted a society of blockade survivors with 21 current members.
The memory of the Great Patriotic War and of the Leningrad Blockade, is held sacred in the Kyrgyz Republic.
