On Tuesday, November 21, the online platform of the Inter-Parliamentary Union hosted a panel discussion on overcoming migration-related challenges.
Parliamentarians and migration experts took part in the online event to discuss policies to ensure safe, orderly and responsible migration, the Global Compact on Migration (GCM) and the Migrant Workers Convention.
Presentations were made by Canadian Senator Salma Ataullahjan; Edgar Corso Sosa, Chairperson of the UN Committee on Migrant Workers’ Rights; Idrissa Kane, Secretary of the UN Committee on Migrant Workers’ Rights, and other participants.
Sergei Pospelov, Executive Secretary of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly, shared the experience of the CSTO PA in harmonizing the legislation of the CSTO Member States in the field of migration policy and countering illegal migration.
“We are convinced that the standardization of the global approaches to solving migration problems and settling large-scale migration crises requires the use of multilateral cooperation mechanisms under the central coordinating role of the UN,” Mr Pospelov noted.
As you may recall, the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly has developed and adopted Recommendations on Refugees and Asylum Seekers, Recommendations on Creating a Positive Image of Labour Migrants in CSTO Member States, Recommendations on Improving the National Legislation of the CSTO Member States on Labour Migrant Pensions, and others.
