CSTO PA Mission Held Meetings with Political Parties in Astana
On the eve of the elections to the Kurultai of the Republic of Kazakhstan, scheduled for August 23, the CSTO PA group of observers held working meetings with representatives of political parties in Astana.
Members of the monitoring group and party representatives discussed the progress of the election campaign, as well as measures to ensure transparency and a level playing field for all candidates.
On August 21, the CSTO PA delegation held a series of consultations with the leaders of the Kazakhstani parties Aq Jol, Respublica, Auyl and Adilet.
At the meeting with Aq Jol, the participants spoke about the current progress of the election campaign and the new role of the Kurultai, placing an emphasis on transparency in the electoral process and compliance with the law and democratic principles.
At the meeting with the Respublica party, the leader Aidarbek Khodzhanazarov shared that the party, composed mostly of entrepreneurs, had cut back on traditional visual campaign, focusing almost entirely on direct voter outreach – online and in-person.
Kairat Aituganov, Chairman of the Auyl Party, at the meeting with CSTO delegation presented an overview of the party’s regional campaign efforts: over the past month, Auyl has held around 4,000 events.
Gulzira Atabaeva, a member of the Political Council Bureau of the Adilet party, stressed the importance of open dialogue and the exchange of experiences for furthering the development of democratic institutions.
Sergei Pospelov, Executive Secretary of the CSTO PA, emphasized that direct engagement with political parties is an integral part of objective and comprehensive monitoring. Such meetings help international delegates build the fullest, most accurate picture of the pre-election situation in the republic.
