Joint exercise Zapad 2021 will practice combating UAVs and cruise missiles in September
Joint exercise of the armies of Russia and Belarus Zapad 2021 will take place on September 10–16 on the territory of both countries.
According to BelTA news agency, Viktor Khrenin, Minister of Defence of Belarus, reported this today to Aleksandr Lukashenko, President of Belarus.
The Minister noted that the joint Russia-Belarus exercise Zapad 2021, which is purely defensive in nature, is based on one of the possible scenarios of military and political escalation against a country, BelTA informs. Viktor Khrenin stressed that the exercise was designed together with Russia, taking into account the situation near the Belarusian borders.
According to the Telegram channel of the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Belarus, the exercise is planned on the territory of the two countries with common operations and strategy, as suggested by the Russian side.
The maneuvers are expected to solve a number of tasks, in particular to test new ways of joint action of combined assault units, evaluate the effectiveness of new and advanced weaponry and study the experience gained in the Syrian Arab Republic. Earlier it was reported that the command and staff exercise Zapad 2021 will focus on combating cruise missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles. The exercise will also include independent combat operations of units separated from the main forces, deep raids, double envelopment and flanking.
