CSTO PA observers defined their monitoring strategy for parliamentary elections in Kazakhstan

At a coordination meeting, international observers from the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly discussed the strategy for monitoring the election to the Mazhilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan, reviewed the election legislation and determined routes to polling stations on election day of January 10, 2021.
Meeting participants included international observers – parliamentarians of the CSTO Member States, representatives of the parliaments of the CSTO Member States and the CSTO PA Secretariat.
As you may recall, the election to the Mazhilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan has been scheduled in accordance with Article 85 of the Constitutional Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan No. 2464 of September 28, 1995 On Elections in the Republic of Kazakhstan (amended and supplemented) and Decree of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev No. 439 of October 21, 2020.
In accordance with the invitation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan of October 22, 2020, decision of the CSTO PA Council No. 21/13-12 of November 30, 2020 and instruction of the Chairman of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly Vyacheslav Volodin, a group of international observers was formed to conduct short-term monitoring of the regular election to the Mazhilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The group was composed of deputies and representatives of the supreme legislative bodies of the CSTO Member States: Republic of Armenia, Republic of Belarus, Kyrgyz Republic, Russian Federation, Republic of Tajikistan and the CSTO PA Secretariat.
Umakhan Umakhanov, State Duma member and deputy Chairman of the Committee on CIS Affairs, Eurasian Integration and Relations with Compatriots of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, was appointed as the group coordinator.
The CSTO PA international observer group acts on the basis of the principles of political neutrality, objectivity, non-interference in the electoral process and in compliance with the election legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
