Under the chairmanship of Igor Lavrinenko, Chairman of the CSTO PA Standing Commission on Socioeconomic and Legal Issues and deputy Chairman of the Standing Committee on National Security of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, a coordination meeting of the group of international observers from the Parliamentary Assembly of the Collective Security Treaty Organization at the Referendum on the Law of the Kyrgyz Republic On the Constitution of the Kyrgyz Republic was held in Bishkek.
Participants of the meeting exchanged impressions on their meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic Ruslan Kazakbaev, assigned the routes for observation of the polling stations on the day of the Referendum voting and discussed the meeting schedule planned for today.
The group of international observers from the CSTO PA includes representatives from parliaments and chambers of parliaments of the CSTO Member States: Republic of Armenia, Republic of Belarus, Republic of Kazakhstan, Russian Federation and Republic of Tajikistan.
The Referendum on amendments to the Constitution of the Kyrgyz Republic is scheduled for April 11. As you may recall, on March 11, the deputies of the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic approved the draft law on the scheduling of the referendum On the Constitution of the Kyrgyz Republic.
The amendments to the Constitution were initiated in the autumn of 2020 by a group of deputies of the Jogorku Kenesh. Sadyr Japarov, President of the Kyrgyz Republic, has also repeatedly stated the need for such a reform. The new version of the Basic Law of the Republic was developed by the Special Constitutional Council. The draft was widely discussed by the public.
