CSTO PA observers paid tribute to the distinguished author and diplomat Chinghiz Aitmatov
International observers from the Parliamentary Assembly of the Collective Security Treaty Organization at the referendum on amendments to the Law of the Kyrgyz Republic On the Constitution of the Kyrgyz Republic visited the Ata Beyit memorial complex and laid wreaths and flowers at the tomb of Chinghiz Aitmatov, a distinguished Soviet Kyrgyz author, public figure and diplomat.
Chinghiz Aitmatov’s works are known far outside the Kyrgyz Republic. World fame came to him back in the USSR in 1958, when the aspiring author’s story Jamila with its striking imagery was translated into French by Louis Aragon himself.
Prior to that, Aitmatov had already graduated from the Higher Literary Courses in Moscow, his works were published in the Soviet Union and in various periods of his creative work he wrote equally brilliantly in Russian and Kyrgyz.
His works were repeatedly adapted for the screen, the film based on his story The First Teacher was widely known in the Soviet Union and became a gem of world cinema, everyone in the Soviet Union read his stories Farewell, Gulsary!, The White Steamship and The Red Scarf and his novels Spotted Dog Running Along the Seashore, The Day Lasts More Than a Hundred Years, The Place of the Skull and When the Mountains Fall, they were translated into one hundred and fifty languages.
