Natalia Kochanova: We Must Ensure Security, Preserve Peace and Tranquillity
At a session of the CSTO PA Council in Minsk, Natalia Kochanova, Chairwoman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, spoke about the increasing role of the Collective Security Treaty Organization as a guarantor of stability in the region.
“Today the situation is tense virtually in all regions of the world, and it definitely worries us. And it is very important that when we meet and discuss these issues, we share the same opinion: we have to stand united to preserve peace and tranquillity.
As for our country, I am absolutely certain that we will do everything in our power to preserve peace and tranquillity in our country. Esteemed Aleksandr Lukashenko, the President of the Republic of Belarus, has said it many times. He is an important politician who knows and understands the processes going on in the world. We have been convinced of it more than once - of the correctness of his actions and statements. And yesterday, at a meeting with our colleagues, the head of state spoke very succinctly and correctly about the situation in the participating states that were also present at that meeting. But we should clearly understand that everything depends on us, on every single person in our country,” Natalia Kochanova stressed.
The Chairwoman of the Council of the Republic also noted that the voice of parliamentarians “should be louder and have more weight in the global political arena, because these are the ones who are elected by the people, these are the ones who see the ongoing processes and care about them.”
“And when we address security issues, of course, we should not just say during these meetings that ‘yes, we are right,’ but when we go international, we should also support each other in the effort to preserve peace, freedom and independence,” Ms Kochanova said.
As you may recall, the regular session of the Council of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly was held in Minsk on May 18. Natalia Kochanova is a member of the Council.
