The leadership of Kazakhstan's Ministry of Defense has changed, with Dauren Kosanov stepping down as Defense Minister, and Aidos Myrzakhmetov assuming the post.
According to Kazakhstan's Ministry of Defense, Aidos Myrzakhmetov is a career officer with more than twenty years of military service. He was born on on August 12, 1981, in the Zhambyl district of the Almaty region.
He graduated with honors from the Military Academy of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Kazakhstan in 2002, and went on to complete specialized operational and command training in national and state security.
Before his current appointment, Myrzakhmetov rose through the ranks of the officer corps in Kazakhstan's State Security Service, holding a number of leadership positions.
He was appointed commander of the country's Special Operations Forces in January 2024, and graduated from the National Defense University in 2025. He was awarded the Order of Valor, II degree, in 2022.
