Nurlan Uteshev: Kazakhstan’s Trade Unions Actively Participated in Drafting the New Constitution
Today, CSTO PA international observer group met with the leadership of the Federation of Trade Unions of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The focus of the meeting was the participation of civil society institutions in the current electoral process.
Representatives of the Federation of Trade Unions briefed the international observers on efforts to enhance citizens' legal and electoral literacy, as well as on the role of trade union organizations in informing the public and protecting voters' labor rights.
Nurlan Uteshev, deputy Chairman of the Federation of Trade Unions of the Republic of Kazakhstan, emphasized that the participation of international observers allows for an objective assessment of the preparation and conduct of the referendum, as well as an opportunity to see how the the people’s will is being expressed.
He also pointed out that the Federation of Trade Unions played a significant role in drafting the new Constitution. A special commission, which included Satybaldy Dauletalin, Chairman of the Federation of Trade Unions of the Republic of Kazakhstan, reviewed 84% of the text.
Ulukbek Uzakbaev, coordinator of the CSTO PA observer group, stressed the great importance of engaging with representatives of civil society. According to him, it is essential for the mission to take into account the views of various public institutions in order to provide an all-round, objective assessment of the election campaign.
