On April 7, Nurlanbek Shakiev, Chairman of the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic, made a report at the 150th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union.
The parliamentarian stressed that the global challenges "place a greater responsibility on the parliaments around the world."
"In these circumstances, legislative bodies should become the driving force for change, serve as a platform for making decisions that strengthen social unity and justice through an open dialog. Kyrgyzstan pays special attention to the development of inter-parliamentary cooperation in these areas, underlining their priority," the Chairman pointed out.
As you may recall, the 150th anniversary Assembly of the IPU is taking place in Tashkent. Held for the first time in Central Asia, the forum has gathered around 2000 delegates from more than 180 countries, 15 observer states and more than 25 international and inter-parliamentary organizations.
Prior to the forum, a coordination meeting of the heads of parliamentary delegations of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) Member States has also taken place.
