CSTO PA’s Experience in Legislative Regulation of Migration Policy Presented at Parliamentary Hearings in Minsk
On April 7, Minsk hosted parliamentary hearings titled Topical Issues of Migration Policy: Practical Solutions and Prospects of Legislative Regulation.
The participants discussed the main areas of social support to migrants, the development of organized labour migration, the problems of border security of the Union State, as well as other topical issues and priorities of migration policy.
“The relevance of the CSTO migration policy parliamentary dimension is confirmed by the current situation developing practically along the entire perimeter of the borders of the CSTO Member States. The situation in Afghanistan, which became more complicated after the withdrawal of US troops, still poses a potential migration threat, and not just on the southern borders of the CSTO area of responsibility,” said Sergei Pospelov, Executive Secretary of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly.
In conclusion, the participants recommended enhancing interaction between the relevant structures of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus, which are members of the International Organization for Migration, to develop unified approaches to various migration policy issues.
