Units of the International Mine Action Centre of the Russian Ministry of Defence will participate in the demining of roads and facilities in Nagorno-Karabakh
Military transport aircraft of the Russian Aerospace Forces brought experts, equipment and weapons, as well as service dogs of the International Mine Action Centre of the Russian Ministry of Defence to the Yerevan airport from Chkalovsky airfield near Moscow to perform tasks in the peacekeeping operation zone in Nagorno-Karabakh.
According to the website of the Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation, Yerevan airfields received more than 100 of the Centre’s servicemen and 13 units of special equipment, including the Uran-6 mine-clearing robotic vehicles, armored personnel carriers and armored cars.
Upon arrival in Stepanakert, sappers will begin engineering reconnaissance, demining of land, roads and facilities and destruction of explosive objects in the areas of Nagorno-Karabakh most affected by the conflict.
Experts from the International Mine Action Centre of the Russian Ministry of Defence will be part of the Peacekeeping Management Centre deployed by the Ministry of Defence in Stepanakert.
Demining units of the International Mine Action Centre of the Russian Ministry of Defence consist exclusively of contract servicemen.
The International Mine Action Centre of the Russian Armed Forces (Nakhabino, Moscow oblast) was formed on August 1, 2014 by the decision of the Russian Minister of Defence. The Centre trains demining experts in accordance with the United Nations International Mine Action Standards (IMAS).
