Chairpersons of foreign affairs committees of the parliaments of the CSTO Member States met at the Organization’s Joint Staff
Participants of the first meeting of chairpersons of foreign affairs committees of the parliaments of the CSTO Member States met with Colonel General Anatoly Sidorov, Chief of the CSTO Joint Staff, in the Collective Security Treaty Organization Joint Staff building in Moscow. The CSTO Chief of Joint Staff personally gave parliamentarians a tour of the building, recalling that it formerly hosted the headquarters of the Warsaw Pact. Representatives of the Joint Staff told the parliamentarians about the monitoring of the situation in the CSTO area of responsibility.
“The situation in the CSTO area of responsibility not only remains tense, but is also becoming more and more difficult to predict,” said the representative of the CSTO Joint Staff.
US strategic nuclear forces’ activization near the borders of the CSTO states, the still-high conflict potential on the Armenian-Azerbaijani line of contact and the terrorist threat in the Tajik-Afghan border area, among other things, were noted.
“It has been noted that there has been an increase in the ability to control a group of forces in the territory of Poland and the Baltic states; there has been an increase in the strike capability of the US armed forces in the region and an increase in the frequency of flights near the borders of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus by US aircraft, including strategic aircraft,” noted the representative of the CSTO Joint Staff.
