On April 29, the Osh State University hosted the International scientific and practical conference "Kyrgyzstan in the Great Patriotic War", dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Victory.
The conference brought together historians, servicemen, representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of the CSTO, local authorities and scientists from Kazakhstan, Russia and Tajikistan, as well as teachers and students of the Osh State University.
The contribution of the people of the Republic of Kyrgyzstan to the Victory over fascism was the focus of discussion. Zholdoshbek Botonoyev, Director of the Institute of Oriental Studies, pointed out that the university is currently implementing a large-scale scientific project "Looking for compatriots missing in action during the Great Patriotic War". A 20-volume book has already been compiled and submitted for publication, containing information from the archives of military commissariats of the Republic: lists of more than 267 thousand people who went to war, as well as more than 140 thousand fallen and missing.
As you may recall, during the Great Patriotic War, more than 360 thousand people in Kyrgyzstan were enrolled – every fourth resident of the Republic. In addition, the country received over 300 thousand evacuees. Kyrgyzstan made a significant contribution to providing the army with rations, uniforms and manufactured goods, and played an important role in building the military formations, such as the legendary 316th Rifle Division commanded by Ivan Panfilov.
Shabdanbek Alishev, Plenipotentiary Representative of the Jogorku Kenesh of Kyrgyzstan to the CSTO PA, pointed out that holding commemorative events contributes to the preservation of historical memory and strengthening of humanitarian ties between the CSTO Member States.
