Presidents of Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan Discussed Regional Cooperation
On February 18, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, President of Kazakhstan, and Sadyr Japarov, President of Kyrgyzstan, held telephone talks.
Mr. Japarov supported the constitutional reform initiated by Mr. Tokayev, which includes transitioning to a unicameral parliament, introducing the position of vice president and forming an advisory body, the People's Council.
Mr. Tokayev wished Kyrgyzstan success in hosting the upcoming SCO summit and the World Nomad Games. He also praised Japarov's recent decisions aimed at "preserving social unity and strengthening Kyrgyz statehood."
As you may recall, a group of observers from the parliaments of the CSTO Member States, including Kyrgyzstan, will be formed in the nearest future to monitor the referendum on the adoption of the new Constitution of Kazakhstan on March 15, 2026.
