On March 13, Sadyr Japarov, President of Kyrgyzstan, and Emomali Rahmon, President of Tajikistan, signed a treaty on the state border in Bishkek.
The signing ceremony took place in the “Yntymak-Ordo” building as part of Emomali Rahmon's state visit to the Kyrgyz Republic. It was celebrated with long ovation.
Immediately afterwards over a video call the leaders of two CSTO Member States opened the Kayragach and Kyzyl-Bel checkpoints on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border, which had been closed for more than four years.
The border between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan spans 1000 kilometers. From time to time, serious conflicts broke out in this area. The reason behind it was the undemarcated sections between Tajikistan's Sughd region and Kyrgyzstan's Batken region. In February 2025, delegations from the two countries signed the final delimitation protocol.
In addition, the parties agreed that Bishkek and Dushanbe will strengthen the cooperation of both countries' intelligence services to combat crime. They also addressed the matter of cybersecurity.
Starting March 14, Bishkek-Dushanbe flights will be resumed. Tickets are already on sale. The flight will take 1.5 hours.
