Presidents of Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan discussed the current situation in the Republic of Kazakhstan
On January 5, Aleksandr Lukashenko, President of the Republic of Belarus, held telephone conversations with Vladimir Putin, President of the Russian Federation, and Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, President of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
“President of Belarus first held consultations with his Russian and then his Kazakh counterparts regarding the situation in Kazakhstan. The leaders of all CSTO Member States maintain constant contact,” reported the press service of the President of the Republic of Belarus.
Protests in the Republic of Kazakhstan began on January 2 in the cities of Zhanaozen and Aktau, Mangystau Region. Two days later, riots broke out in Almaty, as well as in Atyrau, Aktobe, Uralsk, Taraz, Shymkent and Kyzylorda, Karaganda and Nur-Sultan. On January 5, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev accepted the resignation of the government and imposed a state of emergency throughout the Republic of Kazakhstan.
