Presidents of Russia and Belarus discussed future contacts, including through the CSTO
In a telephone conversation on August 30, Vladimir Putin, President of the Russian Federation, warmly congratulated Aleksandr Lukashenko, President of the Republic of Belarus, on his birthday, kremlin.ru reports. The conversation addressed several issues of bilateral cooperation and future contacts in various formats.
Earlier, Vladimir Putin sent Aleksandr Lukashenko a congratulatory telegram that states: “We appreciate your efforts to strengthen allied relations between our countries and to promote mutually beneficial integration processes in the Eurasian space. I am convinced that your vast experience as a statesman will continue to promote unity and harmony in the Belarusian society, stability and security in the country. Belarusian friends can always count on Russia’s support.”
According to BelTA, on August 30 Aleksandr Lukashenko, President of the Republic of Belarus, had a telephone conversation with Emomali Rahmon, President of the Republic of Tajikistan.
“Consultations on the issues to be presented at the CSTO session in Dushanbe. Plus negotiations to form a common position on Afghanistan,” BelTA quotes the press service of the President of the Republic of Belarus
As you may recall, at the August 23 extraordinary session of the CSTO Collective Security Council chaired by Emomali Rahmon, President of the Republic of Tajikistan, the heads of the CSTO Member States decided to develop a set of measures in response to the threats coming from Afghanistan before the next CSTO session on September 16.
