Rubezh-2021 exercise in Kyrgyzstan will improve cohesion of the CSTO Collective Rapid Deployment Forces’ units
On September 7–9, Edelweiss training range in the Kyrgyz Republic will host Rubezh-2021, a joint exercise with the Collective Rapid Deployment Forces of the CSTO Central Asian region of collective security (CRDF CAR); its task is to improve task performance cohesion of the CRDF CAR units during joint operations.
This is reported by the website of the Collective Security Treaty Organization.
The exercise’s theme is “Preparation and Conduct of Combat Operations by the Central Asian Region’s CRDF to Eliminate Illegal Armed Groups That Have Invaded the Territory of a CSTO Member State.”
The exercise will involve military contingents and task forces of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Russian Federation, the Republic of Tajikistan, the CSTO Joint Staff and Secretariat, special forces formations and law enforcement agencies (the police), authorized emergency relief bodies and the State National Security Committee of the Kyrgyz Republic.
The exercise’s main objectives are to improve the practical skills of the CSTO Troops’ (Collective Forces’) commanders in the organization of combat operations and management of subordinate troops (forces), as well as to increase the cohesion of the CRDF CAR units in performing tasks during a joint operation.
Prior to the exercise, officers of the CRDF CAR command and headquarters will have an operational meeting where they will practice planning and preparation of a joint operation.
As you may recall, the Collective Rapid Deployment Forces of the CSTO Central Asian region of collective security are designed to perform tasks of ensuring military security of the CSTO Member States, including participation in the repulsion of external military aggression and conducting joint counter-terrorism operations.
Depending on the nature of the threat, the CRDF CAR may have a different structure, composition and means of reinforcement, including aviation.
The total strength of the CRDF CAR is about 5,000 people.
The CSTO Member States of the Central Asian collective security region (Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Tajikistan) provide the CRDF CAR national forces (contingents) with military formations, units and permanent readiness detachments of the armed forces and other troops, functions and bodies providing military service and fitted with high-mobility military equipment, integrate weaponry and communication systems and combat, logistics and technical support units.
