Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping Noted the Important Role of the CSTO
Vladimir Putin, President of Russia, paid a state visit to China from May 16 to 17, 2024, at the invitation of Xi Jinping, President of China.
Commemorating the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, full-format talks between the heads of state were held in Beijing.
The text of the Joint Statement of Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping indicates the deepening of relations of comprehensive partnership and strategic cooperation, entering a new era. In addition, it recognizes the important role of the CSTO and the CIS.
“The parties recognize the important role of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) in ensuring regional stability, including the fight against international terrorism, illegal drug production and trafficking, organized crime and other cross-border challenges and threats,” the statement reads.
Chinese parliamentarians are regular guests at the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly events; they take part in the meetings of the Councils of the Assembly. Representatives of the PRC are also invited to participate in the meeting of the CSTO PA Council in Almaty on June 3.
