Sergei Vershinin, deputy Foreign Minister of Russia, held talks with Akan Rakhmetullin, deputy Foreign Minister of Kazakhstan. The parties discussed the issue of countering terrorism and extremism in the face of escalation of the situation in the Middle East, Afghanistan and other regions.
During the meeting, the deputies exchanged detailed assessments of the current security situation, paying special attention to the measures aimed at combating international terrorism, extremism and drug trafficking.
They put an emphasis on the need to strengthen the coordination of Russian-Kazakh cooperation on the key international platforms, such as the UN, the CSTO, the CIS and the SCO, in order to ensure stability and security in Central Asia.
Following the talks, the diplomats underlined their common stance on the importance of intensifying interdepartmental dialog for jointly countering new challenges and threats, strengthening the strategic partnership and increasing the effectiveness of joint measures to ensure regional security.
As you may recall, in 2017 the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly adopted Recommendations on the Approximation of the CSTO Member States’ Legislation on the Provision of International Legal Assistance with Criminal Cases in the Framework of Countering Terrorism and Cross-Border Crime, formerly Recommendations on Countering Terrorism and Extremism.
