In the framework of the CSTO, Russia offered assistance to Azerbaijan and Armenia in resolving the border situation
Russia, within the framework of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), has offered to assist the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Armenia in resolving the border situation and proposed to establish an Armenian-Azerbaijani commission for delimitation and demarcation. According to TASS, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said this on Wednesday, May 19, following talks with Tajik Foreign Minister Sirojiddin Muhriddin.
“Already yesterday we began the work of CSTO foreign ministers in an informal setting. We reviewed the request of our Armenian colleagues and in accordance with this request we discussed the situation between Yerevan and Baku. <...> According to a preliminary agreement with the parties, the Russian Federation has offered assistance in the delimitation and demarcation of the border and proposed to establish a joint Armenian-Azerbaijani commission, in which Russia could take part as a consultant or a mediator, as it were,” the minister said.
Mr Lavrov noted that as part of these contacts, Russia also informed other states about Moscow’s efforts to resolve the incident on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border.
As you may recall, on May 19, Dushanbe is hosting a meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO CFM), currently chaired by the Republic of Tajikistan.
