Today, on April 11, the first session of the Majlisi Milli of the seventh convocation took place in Dushanbe.
At the session, Rustami Emomali was unanimously elected Chairman of the Upper Chamber of the Parliament of Tajikistan.
Emomali Rahmon, President of Tajikistan, also attended the session and gave a speech, stressing the importance of lawmaking for achieving the strategic goals of the state.
After the official opening ceremony, the elections were held by a secret ballot. Based on the result of the voting, everyone present supported the candidacy of Rustami Emomali for the post of Chairman.
This is Emomali's second term as Chairman – he has been the head of the Upper Chamber since April 2020, while remaining the Mayor of Dushanbe.
In the course of the session, deputy Chairmans were also elected, and the lists of members for the standing committees were agreed upon.
President Emomali Rahmon congratulated the Upper Chamber members on their election and spoke of the need to draft laws that contribute to strengthening state independence and security and improving the population's quality of life.
As you may recall, the Majlisi Milli consists of 33 members; 25 members are elected by local majlises of people's deputies, and 8 are appointed by the President. In March 2025, the regular parliamentary elections in Tajikistan were observed by the CSTO parliamentarians. The observers’ Report is published on the official website of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly.
