Sargsyan: CSTO parliamentarians must have direct contact with the Organization’s peacekeeping forces
Hayk Sargsyan, a deputy of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia, praises the experience of the Russian peacekeepers taking part in the Collective Security Treaty Organization’s Collective Peacekeeping Forces exercise Unbreakable Brotherhood 2021. “It has already been a year since Russian peacekeepers started serving in Nagorno-Karabakh, in conflict zones, and the role of Russian peacekeepers in this exercise is very significant: they already have a year’s experience in the most difficult areas, including Nagorno-Karabakh. We have been observing the importance and the need for peacekeepers for a year already,” said Hayk Sargsyan.
“We are very glad that the Armenian peacekeeper contingent studies and participates in this exercise together with Russia and other states of the Collective Security Treaty Organization. Interaction is a very good word. And we can and will cooperate whenever a need arises,” stressed the deputy of the Armenian National Assembly.
According to Hayk Sargsyan, parliamentarians’ participation in the CSTO peacekeeping exercise is very important. “First of all, Armenia is a parliamentary republic, but it is very important for all our countries: there is a need to adopt laws, and it is very important that we can receive first-hand information about the state of the Organization’s Collective Forces.”
Hayk Sargsyan emphasized, “We, the deputies, communicate very well with each other, I will have a lot to think about.”
As for the Armenian contingent taking part in the exercise, according to the Armenian National Assembly’s deputy, not only Armenian peacekeepers, but also representatives of the internal affairs bodies of the Republic of Armenia, national troops, counter-terrorist units and units fighting against organized crime take part in the exercise. “I spoke with them, they often take part in similar events, and they highly appreciate the experience gained during the exercises,” said Hayk Sargsyan.
