Today the Republic of Belarus celebrates its national holiday: Independence Day

ndependence Day of the Republic of Belarus (Belarusian: Дзень Незалежнасці Рэспублікі Беларусь) or Republic Day (Belarusian: Дзень Рэспублікі).
From 1991 to 1996, Independence Day was celebrated on July 27, the day of adoption of the Declaration of Sovereignty of Belarus.
The new date for celebrating Independence Day of the Republic of Belarus – July 3 – is a significant date in the country’s history; it has become a symbol of freedom and peace for its citizens. It was chosen during a national referendum in November 1996.
On this day in 1944, during Operation Bagration, Minsk, the capital of the Republic of Belarus, was liberated from the Nazi invaders.
Of all referendum participants, 88.18% of voted in favour of the proposal “To move the celebration of Independence Day of the Republic of Belarus (Republic Day) to July 3, the day of liberation of Belarus from the Nazi invaders in the Great Patriotic War.”
Independence Day is a national holiday in the Republic of Belarus that is widely celebrated by the citizens. On this day in 2020, the capital’s official events include the parade of the Minsk Garrison and festive fireworks.
Independence Day of the Republic of Belarus on July 3 is a non-working holiday.​
