On May 25, 2022, Minsk hosted the International Research to Practice Conference on Topical Issues of Information Security Methodology, Technologies and Practices organized by the National Security Institute of the Republic of Belarus (a partner organization of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly since 2014).
Experts from security agencies, state bodies, other organizations, educational institutions and scientific organizations the Republic of Belarus, Russian Federation, Republic of Kazakhstan, bodies of the Commonwealth of Independent States and the Collective Security Treaty Organization participated in the conference.
The conference provided a platform for exchanging views on topical issues of information security.
Vladimir Bondurovskiy, deputy Head of the CSTO PA Secretariat, Candidate of Juridical Sciences, Associate Professor, and Vyacheslav Kocharyan, CSTO PA Secretariat Councillor, Candidate of Technical Sciences, reported on experience of making model laws on information security legal support, their status and development prospects.
The report stressed that along with 13 infosec model acts adopted by the CSTO PA, the most in-demand laws that are being developed right now include protection of critical information infrastructure to enhance its operability; big data protection; electoral sovereignty; secure Internet usage; regulation of cryptoasset circulation.
On the whole, the CSTO model legal acts in this area are designed to align the legal framework to counter the use of Internet technologies for criminal purposes, combatting terrorism and extremism, organized crime, corruption and other negative factors.
“We view the lawmaking activities of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly and participation in its work as a contribution to the creation of optimal rules of responsible behaviour in the information sphere for all CSTO Member States,” the report notes.
