Sergei Lavrov: CSTO is Firmly Committed to International Law
During the meeting of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly Council on April 20, Sergei Lavrov, Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation and Chairman of the CSTO Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs, addressed the parliamentarians of the Organization’s Member States.
In his speech, he gave a detailed assessment of the current international situation, highlighting major geopolitical shifts and rising global tensions. He paid particular attention to the role of parliamentary diplomacy in developing common approaches to ensuring regional and global security.
Speaking of the importance of unity of allied states on the international stage, Sergei Lavrov emphasized that the CSTO "could become one of the pillars of the architecture of equal and indivisible security across Eurasia."
He expressed confidence that the CSTO "will not stray from the universal norms of international law; on the contrary, it will counter attempts to undermine them and to impose lawlessness in world affairs."
Lavrov also called on the Member States to consider events occurring outside the Organization in their military planning.
The minister emphasized that special attention is to be paid to the Organization’s peacekeeping forces. In this regard, he underlined the task of finalizing the legal framework governing the CSTO’s participation in UN peacekeeping operations.
