Sergei Lavrov: The Communication Pause Between Russia and Armenia Has Been Overcome
On January 21, Sergei Lavrov and Ararat Mirzoyan, Russian and Armenian Foreign Ministers, met in Moscow. They spoke about the results of the meeting at a joint press conference.
Sergei Lavrov Lavrov called the talks with his Armenian counterpart efficient and comprehensive.
“Trustful communication between our leaders sets a benchmark for further development of interaction between the two states, including between their foreign ministries. From our end, we emphasized our commitment to all agreements with Yerevan, including in the military and political sphere; they are formed at the bilateral level and within our common integration associations. At the same time, we are definitely interested in ensuring that our relations are not negatively impacted by extra-regional players, who are not interested in seeing the Russian-Armenian alliance strengthening,” Sergei Lavrov noted.
Ararat Mirzoyan thanked the Russian side for hospitality and organization of the talks, which, according to him, were held in a “sincere and constructive atmosphere”.
“The range of issues discussed was quite wide and diverse. We reviewed bilateral cooperation and, naturally, touched upon the subject of peace in the South Caucasus,” Ararat Mirzoyan said.
Besides, the parties discussed preparations for the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War, the situation of the Russian language in Armenia and other issues. Sergei Lavrov accepted Ararat Mirzoyan's invitation to visit Armenia.
