Sergei Rachkov: IPU Must Remain a Space for Equal Dialogue

"Anda Filip’s appointment as Secretary General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union marks an important milestone in the organization’s 137-year history. Her impressive diplomatic experience and many years of service within the IPU certainly deserve respect.

However, the Union’s leadership now faces extremely difficult challenges. Amid unprecedented geopolitical tensions and pressure on the institutions of multilateral diplomacy, the new Secretary General’s key task is to prevent the politicization of this oldest international forum. The IPU must remain a space for truly equal and mutually respectful dialogue, rather than a tool for imposing the will of others.

The Belarusian side and our partners in the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly are ready for constructive cooperation. We hope that, under the leadership of Ms. Filip, the IPU Secretariat will adhere to the principles of objectivity, and that the organization’s updated Strategy will serve the interests of all sovereign states in order to strengthen global security and sustainable development."
