On December 9, Nurlanbek Shakiev, Chairman of the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic, spoke at the meeting of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly in Moscow.
He emphasized the importance of cooperation between the Organization's Member States and called it a guarantor of security in the region. Nurlanbek Shakiev assured the participants that Kyrgyzstan would continue to actively participate in CSTO activities and fulfill its obligations.
As you may recall, since January 1, 2025, Kyrgyzstan will assume the chairmanship of the CSTO.
Mr. Shakiev noted that during this period, the country will focus on strengthening the Organization's potential and maintaining regional security. About twenty events are planned, including sessions of the Collective Security Council and exercises with the Collective Rapid Deployment Forces.
The Kyrgyz Speaker also presented the priorities for the chairmanship, which include the development of foreign policy interaction, military cooperation and countering contemporary threats. Special attention will be paid to biological security and countering terrorism.
