Kant airbase’s Sukhoi Su-25 attack planes will provide air support during exercises in Tajikistan
A flight of Sukhoi Su-25 SM attack planes has been redeployed from the airfield of the Russian military base Kant in the Kyrgyz Republic to Gissar airfield in Tajikistan to participate in a joint tactical exercise.
According to the website of the Russian Ministry of Defence, the attack places will provide air support to the joint group of troops.
In the course of the practical exercise, the Sukhoi Su-25 SM crews will search for camouflaged bases of a simulated enemy, carry out missile and bombing strikes on targets and practice evasion of enemy attacks using portable anti-aircraft missile systems.
More than 3.5 thousand servicemen of the units of the 201st military base and armed forces of the Republic of Tajikistan are involved in the exercise under the command of Colonel General Aleksandr Lapin, the commander of the troops of the Central Military District of the Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation.
About 2,500 servicemen of the 201st military base and up to 400 units of armament, military and special equipment are involved in the exercise from the Russian side.
The Joint Russian Military Base Kant is the aviation component of the Collective Rapid Deployment Force and ensures security of the territory and airspace of the Member States of the Collective Security Treaty Organization, including the Kyrgyz Republic.
