On 19 May in Bishkek, the Council of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO PA) instructed to agree on a new Program of Model Legislation until 2030.
The draft Program of Activities of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly on the approximation and harmonization of national legislation for 2026-2030 provides for the development of a number of important initiatives. In particular, it is planned to prepare a Concept for the development of legislation of the CSTO member states in the field of historical education aimed at preserving the collective historical memory of the most significant events and personalities in the history of the member states.
In addition, the project envisages the development of a CSTO model law “On Countering Extremist Activities, Spreading Extremist Ideology in the Information Environment”, which should help strengthen the legal framework of member states in the fight against modern challenges and threats related to extremism and information security.
“More than 100 proposals for the development of new model acts have been received from parliaments, ministries and agencies of the CSTO member states. First of all, it is necessary to adopt projects that meet the task of strengthening cooperation in the field of security. We proceed from the fact that the Program of Activities of the Parliamentary Assembly should meet the challenges of the time,” said Vyacheslav Volodin, Chairman of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly and Speaker of the State Duma of the Russian Federation.
The agreement and subsequent implementation of the new program of model legislation until 2030 will be an important step towards further rapprochement of the legal systems of the CSTO countries and strengthening collective security in the region.
