Marlen Mamataliev Was Elected Speaker of the Jogorku Kenesh
On February 12, Marlen Mamataliyev was elected Speaker of the Parliament of Kyrgyzstan. His predecessor, Nurlanbek Turgunbek uulu, who had held the position since October 2022, officially resigned.
Mamataliyev's candidacy was proposed by the Ata-Jurt, Ala-Too, Eldik, Mekenchil, and Adilet Kyrgyzstan parliamentary groups. He was supported by 77 deputies.
In the current seventh convocation of the Parliament, Marlen Mamataliyev worked in the Committee on Budget, Economic and Fiscal Policy. The new Speaker has management experience in both the public and private sectors. He previously served as the Head of the Real Sector Department in the Government Office, worked as a State Secretary in the Ministry of Economic Regulation, and rose from a leading specialist to the Head of the Department in the Social Fund.
Nurlanbek Turgunbek uulu stepped down as the Speaker after three years in the leadership of the Parliament.
