Tokayev and Putin Discussed Allied Relations in Astana
On May 28, talks were held in Astana between Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and Vladimir Putin, President of Russia. The leaders of the two countries discussed key aspects of bilateral cooperation, as well as collaboration within the framework of alliance commitments and international organizations, which is particularly important for ensuring regional security and stability.
Kassym-Jomart Tokayev reaffirmed the unwavering commitment to deepening integration and strengthening security within the CSTO’s area of responsibility and across the entire Eurasian space.
"We will continue working toward strengthening the strategic partnership and allied relations between our countries," Tokayev underlined.
Vladimir Putin spoke highly of the level of coordination between Moscow and Astana on the international stage, emphasizing the allied nature of the relationship.
"In international affairs, our joint work within the Eurasian Economic Community, the Collective Security Treaty Organization, the Commonwealth of Independent States, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, BRICS and the United Nations, as well as within the Caspian Five in the Russia-Central Asia format, serves as an example of constructive cooperation," Vladimir Putin stated during the talks.
The Russian leader emphasized that the strategic partnership between the two countries is rooted in a deep historical ties and centuries of good-neighborly relations:
"Back then, a lot of effort was made to take additional steps toward deepening and expanding our strategic partnership, which is truly based on strong traditions of friendship and mutual respect throughout the centuries of coexistence of our peoples, including them being a part of a single state," Vladimir Putin noted.
In addition to security and geopolitical cooperation, the leaders paid special attention to the economic agenda. A wide package of intergovernmental, inter-agency and commercial agreements, covering a wide range of areas—from the economy and energy to cultural and humanitarian projects—has been prepared for signing during the visit.
