On May 28, several Member States of the Collective Security Treaty Organization annually celebrate Border Guard Day.
"In today’s geopolitical climate, the role of border guard services has taken on special significance. The state borders of CSTO Member States are the first and most important line of defence for the Eurasian space against external threats. Border guards work around the clock solving the most difficult challenges faced by our states," stressed Sergei Pospelov, Executive Secretary of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly.
He noted that interagency and interstate cooperation is now particularly relevant.
"On establishing a reliable legal framework for border security, the CSTO PA cooperates closely and effectively with the Coordination Service of the Council of Commanders of Border Troops of the CIS countries, headed by Colonel General Aleksandr Manilov. Taking this opportunity, on behalf of the Assembly Secretariat, I congratulate the Council of Commanders on its 35th anniversary. To everyone who has dedicated their lives to the challenging but honorable service at the border, we wish you good health, prosperity, fortitude and further success in ensuring the security of our countries," Sergei Pospelov said.
As you may recall, the model laws and recommendations on border security developed and adopted by the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly form a single legal shield, enabling the border agencies of CSTO Member States to cooperate with one another as effectively as possible, conduct joint operations and respond promptly to any challenges at the Organization’s external borders.
