Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, President of Kazakhstan, signed a decree on the convocation of the first session of the Kurultai.
"The first session of the first convocation of Kurultai of the Republic of Kazakhstan shall convene on August 28, 2026, at 11:00 in Astana. This Decree shall come into force on the day of its signing," the document states.
As you may recall, on July 1, the new Constitution, adopted at the Republican referendum on March 15, came into force in Kazakhstan.
On August 23, elections were held in the Republic for deputies of the unicameral Parliament, Kurultai. It will comprise 145 members, each elected for a five-year term.
An international group of CSTO PA observers monitored the Kurultai elections. The Final Report of the observer group has been published on the Assembly’s official website, pacsto.org.
