Vladimir Andreichenko: Union parliamentarians must protect information space and traditional values of the people
The information space became a battlefield today, BelTA quotes Vladimir Andreichenko, deputy Chairman of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union State of Belarus and Russia and Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, as saying this at the 60th session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union State of Belarus and Russia, held remotely.
“Union parliamentarians must pay close attention to such important issues as protection of information space and traditional values of the peoples of Belarus and Russia and upbringing and education of young people,” Mr Andreichenko believes.
“Unfortunately, advanced IT technologies are used as a tool in the information and psychological warfare against our countries and peoples. Permissiveness is promoted, there are calls for public disorder, there is a direct discrediting of state authorities. The so-called half-truth aimed at distorting the historical truth and memory is gradually being introduced into people’s minds,” stressed Mr Andreichenko.
According to him, the Parliamentary Assembly Youth Chamber successfully implements projects in the area of historical memory preservation. “A proof of this is their participation in perpetuating the memory of the deputies of the BSSR Supreme Soviet who died or went missing during the Great Patriotic War. It is part of the international project Digital Star. Such projects should be developed and supported in every possible way,” he is convinced. Vladimir Andreichenko believes that promoting military and patriotic educational projects for the youth within the framework of the Union State is promising. According to him, visits to Belarusian and Russian war memorials and sites of military glory could be one of the elements of educational programs to help the younger generation learn more about the heroic past of the two countries.
“The 60th session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union State of Belarus and Russia is taking place on the eve of a significant date: the 80th anniversary of the beginning of the Great Patriotic War. Our peoples endured, displaying unparalleled heroism and selflessness. The Great Victory was made possible through our unity and deep belief in the righteousness of our cause. Its memory is sacred for us and it serves as a strong foundation for union-building and developing an equal dialogue between Belarus and Russia and strengthening the friendship between the two brotherly nations,” said Vladimir Andreichenko.
